Mission Possible & Mission Impossible?! - Success in one area, sadness in another

It is such a difficult time .. I get in this morning .. to find that my mother had refused her feed overnight .. but that no water had been given – I do not think that the Care Plan had been established for this potential scenario ..

The feed had been started in the new regime of 500 mls during the day & 500mls at night – but my poor mother was in a lot of pain in the stomach & said she felt so thirsty .. gosh – what a desperate situation .. I feel so terrible for her, that she’s having to endure this ..

I settled her and left her to sleep – I hoped – and was grateful that Janice, our Healer, would be visiting in the afternoon and would guide my mother to a calmer more peaceful place ... thank goodness.

I wait to see what the Nursing Management will do .. I don’t have much faith I’m afraid .. perhaps things will be different?

Faith is powerfull. The Bible says that if we have faith like a mustard seed, that is all we need.

Faith looks at things the way they can be and not as they are.

The love that you are showing your mother is active and can be felt.

Press on!

Such a difficult time for both of you. I is really hard to watch a loved one go though all of this. We sometimes wonder why is this happening? It is times like these that we grow the most, at least this is what I have found. May it get better for you both. I hope that tomarrow will be better. Keep in top of the staff, if they know that you are watching closely they will do a better job with your mother. It is the poor one that do not have someone caring like you that have an even harder time. Thank goodness your mother has you.Keep your chin up. I hope tomarrow is better.

Heather,

The closer you get the end the trail the more powerless that you feel. There is not much you can do but comfort your mom!

Your in our hearts and prayers!

Dear Hilary

I can feel your sadness in your writing. I can hear from you that you feel terrible for your mother, and it is very painful for you to watch her like suffer. You must use each and every moment with her focusing on all the little joy in life. You and her both know her situation, her pain and her discomfort. You can’t do anything about those items. What you can do it to add value to her time, bring her hand picked flowers from on your way to her. Sing her a song. Put lotion on her hands and feet. Any little thing that you two can do to create beautiful moment together celebrates that. Keep the faith! Everything will be ok.

Love, Giovanna

Hi Hilary....

It was wonderful to chat with you the other day!! I hope your days have been filled with more love and joy.

I can see why this day was difficult. Did you discuss the incident with the Nursing staff? We can relate to the tube feeding situation because our daughter requires tube feeding. What we've learned from experience is that although doctors can calculate how many calories a person needs in a day, every one is still unique. If your mother is experiencing pain in her stomach from feeling full all the time or feeling pressure, you might want to suggest to either slow down the feedings, spread the feeding regime farther apart or even giving her less food. We found that customizing Mia's diet on our very own, made her and her tummy much happier. She's healthy, thriving and gaining weight.

I hope this helps. We know its difficult. Your mother has a wonderful daughter and you're doing a terrific job taking care of her.

Many Blessings....Roxanne and Hugo

Dear Hilary

How are you doing love? You havn't posted any more for a little while. How are things? I posted comment on this post a while ago and it said it was wanting for you to approve. I am not sure if that ever got to you. Anyway, I just want to drop by to say hi and I am thinking about you.

Multitude thanks to you all .. it's difficult to explain all the thoughts this way .. or to get the ambience over .. however Mum thank goodness has never appeared depressed .. ie we get no negatives = amazing; & also has never been in any 'ill' pain .. obviously some muscle or stomach low threshold pain but nothing major; if she's sick - she's immediately better! & if she has a very rare mini bleed/ fit .. she's also fine afterwards = quite extraordinary After her moving the goalposts for us .. we seem to be back where we were .. however its helped me .. the family are more on side & the hospice is involved .. should the occasion arise. We've had two really good days .. and she sleeps a lot & says .. "this sleeping business is very funny" .. It's a very high standard she has set and maintained. With love & thoughts to you all Hilary
